If you were that kid who had Back to the Future recorded on VHS and watched it every weekend throughout your childhood, you'll want to strap yourself in for this electrifying news: the pop culture phenomenon is now a musical, set to premiere in London's West End in May 2021.
Based on the 1985 film, the musical will feature hits from the original blockbuster including 'The Power of Love' and 'Johnny B. Goode', as well as new songs by Alan Silvestri, who composed some of the most recognisable themes in movie history (The Bodyguard; Avengers: Endgame; Forrest Gump; Predator; The Polar Express).
Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis, writers of the Back to the Future trilogy, are on board as co-creators and producers of the new musical.
The story of Marty McFly, eccentric scientist Doc Brown and a retrofitted DeLorean grossed US$390 million worldwide at the box office.
Back to the Future the Musical had a run at the Manchester Opera House earlier this year ahead of its West End debut; originally slated to open in 2015, it hit a pothole when director Jamie Lloyd left the production due to 'creative differences'.
