The long-term manager of the Aussie supergroup INXS, Chris Murphy, has teamed up with one of Australia's biggest producers Michael Cassel (Hamilton, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, The Lion King) to develop a musical featuring the sensational music of the iconic rock band.
In an interview, Cassel said 'If all goes to plan, we could have a table reading with actors in Sydney sometime in early 2021,' with curtains lifting on the production about a year later.
Murphy and music labels Universal and Warner Chappell have signed on to develop the musical, drawing on a catalogue of more than 200 songs from the band's 43-year history. Similar productions, such as ABBA's Mamma Mia! and Queen's We Will Rock You have gone on to generate billions at the box office.
Last week, INXS's The Very Best album hit half a million sales in Australia and reached Diamond status, putting it in the same league as Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran.
