You might have heard the news back in 2018 that Legally Blonde 3 was in the works. And February 2020 was the slated release date. But then life and a pandemic got in the way. However, Reese Witherspoon recently shared the news that Mindy Kaling (The Office, The Mindy Project, Never Have I Ever) and Dan Goor (Parks and Recreation, Brooklyn Nine-Nine) have been working on the script, which puts a 'fresh spin' on it.
While no release date has been confirmed yet, Alanna Ubach and Jessica Cauffiel who play Elle Woods's sorority sisters and Jennifer Coolidge, who plays manicurist Paulette, have been announced as part of the returning cast. Reese Witherspoon will, of course, be playing the pink-clad lead, hopefully with sidekick Bruiser in tow.
The plot is being kept under wraps but, according to Reese, will be 'so much fun. So full of fashion. So full of awesome feminist ideas. It will be global. It will have animals.' Not unlike the first two films, then.
Legally Blonde premiered on Broadway in 2007, bringing the film's important messages about friendship, being true to yourself and brains-and-beauty to the stage.
