In the last week, even as venues and theatres shut their doors, performers, artists and companies have jumped online to reach audiences in a new way. We've scoured the web to find you the best places to get your hit of live concerts, musicals and experiences, to bring you a bit of joy in the weeks and months ahead. You can now enjoy performances and events around the world without leaving the couch.

Musicals, theatre and circus
Scenes for Survival
The National Theatre of Scotland has responded to the crisis in the performing arts sector with an online project that provides opportunities for artists. Scenes for Survival will launch new pieces of theatre over the coming months across online channels and platforms. We'll update this listing when the program becomes available.
Cirque du Soleil
Those disappointed when Kurios was postponed in Australia can access a range of content, including a 60-minute special, music from their shows and even a weekly workout program. See the full offering here.
Living Room Concerts
Broadway World has launched a video series of musical theatre performers singing from – you guessed it – their living rooms. The clips are short, low-res and totally worth checking out.
National Theatre at Home
Access some of the best British theatre online on National Theatre's YouTube channel, with a new show released every Thursday at 7pm BST (5am AEDT) and made available for a week.
Lin-Manuel Miranda and Andrew Lloyd Webber
The two musical theatre celebrities who gave us Hamilton and The Phantom of the Opera have been involved in a play-off suggested by Sir ALW. Lin-Manuel Miranda kicked off with this, and Andrew Lloyd Webber responded with this.

Melbourne Symphony Orchestra
The MSO was one of the first to announce it would live stream its cancelled concerts for free. It kicked off with Scheherazade and followed up with Beethoven & Mendelssohn. While new live streams have yet to be announced, the MSO Live playlist is still available for any classical music lovers.
Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra
The members of this orchestra each recorded their part of Beethoven's 9th Symphony from isolation to create this moving and extraordinary performance. Watch the short clip on YouTube.
Melbourne Digital Concert Hall
This social enterprise supports musicians who have lost work due to COVID-19. The full program is here; funds go directly to the musicians.
The Metropolitan Opera
New York's Met Opera is live streaming a different encore performance each day on its website. Performances start at 7:30pm ET (10:30am AEDT) and are available for 23 hours.

Head on Photo Festival
The festival has moved online, is scheduled to take place from 1 - 17 May and will feature art and activities to engage with. A scaled-back physical festival will take place later in the year.
Google Arts & Culture
You can get a lot closer to the artworks displayed here than in real life by using the zoom function ie. close enough to see the cracks and brush strokes. Search your favourite painter or museum.
Bring the cuteness of the animals at Melbourne Zoo, Healesville Sanctuary and Werribee Open Range Zoo into your home with these live streams. There's Ed the Penguin, zebras, giraffes, snow leopards and lions.
San Diego Zoo
The famed zoo has everything from polar bears and penguins to owls and condors.
Jump online daily at 2pm ET (that's 5am AEDT for the insomniacs in Australia) for a Virtual Voyage, presented by the keepers and education staff.
Detroit Zoo's Virtual Vitamin Z series are educational and fun, covering a butterfly's life cycle, a visit to the red panda enclosure and more. There are also live cams of otters, wolves and snow monkeys.
Take a walk through the famed Irish castle on this virtual tour.
Ironfest Gothic Virtual Festival
Lovers of all things gothic can still attend the virtual festival, taking place from 17 - 19 April. Details TBC.
Adelaide Writers' Week
Enjoy access to conversations with the best authors and thinkers around the world. The literary festival is now streaming podcasts from the 2015 - 2020 sessions.
Yarra Valley Writers Festival
Australia's top writers will converge – online – on 9 May for a live-streamed YVWF. The program will be released in early April and ticket sales will go towards supporting the authors, conveners and technicians.
Sir Patrick Stewart
The Star Trek star has taken to reading a Shakespearean sonnet a day on Twitter. With 154 sonnets, that should keep him going for a few months.
This new podcast will showcase authors reading the works that matter to them. New episodes drop every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Surry Hills Live
Jump on their Facebook page at 7:30pm AEDT on Thursdays to catch some emerging artists and DJs live.
The man whose 80s-inspired disco sound and B-grade-artist aesthetic have earned him a cult following will be streaming live each Saturday at 10am AEDT on Instagram.
Contemporary live music
Sofa King Fest
You can donate to the musician or a charity of the musician's choice while watching this curated live stream of the best music around the world. Sets are scheduled at half-an-hour intervals and performers have included Melissa Etheridge and Cypress Hill.
The country music star played a live set from his warehouse with wife Nicole providing the backup vocals. You can watch it on YouTube.
Rolling Stone's In My Room
This IGTV series kicked off with Brian Wilson singing from his California home and will release new episodes every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 3pm ET (6am the following day AEDT).
Together at Home
With musicians such as Niall Horan, Chris Martin and John Legend performing sets up to an hour+, this YouTube series from WHO and Global Citizen is worthwhile checking out.
