Hats off to those in the live entertainment and performing arts industry – they're nothing if not creative and adaptable. In the last week, even as venues and theatres shut their doors, performers, artists and companies have jumped online to reach audiences in a new way. We've scoured the web to find you the best places to get your hit of live concerts, musicals and experiences, to bring you a bit of joy in the weeks and months ahead. You can now enjoy performances and events around the world without leaving the couch.

Musicals, theatre and circus

(NEW) Lights Up on the Arts: Home Delivery
Over one evening on 11 May, this special concert will take a live audience into the living room of performers from Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and Australian musicals Shrek, School of Rock and Come From Away to name a few. Follow the Joshua Robson Productions Facebook page for details and updates.

SOHO Theatre On Demand
The pay-to-view model allows you to watch some of the best comedy, theatre and cabaret in London, with funds going various charities. (PSI: If you haven't heard of Fleabag, get onto it – it'll be available to stream from 10 April for a limited time.)

The Shows Must Go On!
This YouTube channel will release a smash-hit, full-length musical every week that will be available for 48 hours. Tune in for backstage access, solos and highlights as well.

The cast of Beautiful
This one's a tear-jerker – the cast of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical performs 'You've Got A Friend' from isolation to raise money for The Actors Fund. Check it out on YouTube.

Katharine McPhee
The musical theatre star performs covers on her IGTV channel with David Foster.

Broadway HD
Stream your favourite Broadway musicals with a 7-day free trial here or access occasional free content. This week, watch Hugh Jackman in Oklahoma!.

Scenes for Survival
The National Theatre of Scotland has responded to the crisis in the performing arts sector with an online project that provides opportunities for artists. Scenes for Survival will launch new pieces of theatre over the coming months across online channels and platforms. We'll update this listing when the program becomes available.

Cirque du Soleil
Those disappointed when Kurios was postponed in Australia can access a range of content, including a 60-minute special, music from their shows and even a weekly workout program. See the full offering here.

Living Room Concerts
Broadway World has launched a video series of musical theatre performers singing from – you guessed it – their living rooms. The clips are short, low-res and totally worth checking out.

National Theatre at Home
Access some of the best British theatre online on National Theatre's YouTube channel, with a new show released every Thursday at 7pm BST (5am AEDT) and made available for a week.

Lin-Manuel Miranda and Andrew Lloyd Webber
The two musical theatre celebrities who gave us Hamilton and The Phantom of the Opera have been involved in a play-off suggested by Sir ALW. Lin-Manuel Miranda kicked off with this, and Andrew Lloyd Webber responded with this.

Classical music and opera

Melbourne Symphony Orchestra
The MSO was one of the first to announce it would live stream its cancelled concerts for free. It kicked off with Scheherazade and followed up with Beethoven & Mendelssohn. While new live streams have yet to be announced, the MSO Live playlist is still available for any classical music lovers.

Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra
The members of this orchestra each recorded their part of Beethoven's 9th Symphony from isolation to create this moving and extraordinary performance. Watch the short clip on YouTube.

Melbourne Digital Concert Hall
This social enterprise supports musicians who have lost work due to COVID-19. The full program is here; funds go directly to the musicians.

The Metropolitan Opera
New York's Met Opera is live streaming a different encore performance each day on its website. Performances start at 7:30pm ET (10:30am AEDT) and are available for 23 hours.

Spoken word and film

(NEW) We Are One: A Global Film Festival
Over 10 days, this first ever global film festival will stream content from 20 of the world's most famous film festivals, including Cannes, Berlin International, Sundance, Tribeca and Tokyo International Film Festivals. Full schedule starting 29 May to 7 June to be released soon.

Bright Minded: Live with Miley
The IGTV series has ended, but you can still watch the episodes that discuss "how to stay LIT with love in dark times." Guests have included Selma Blair, Elton John, Ellen Degeneres and even Miley Cyrus's therapist Dr Amen.

Adelaide Writers' Week
Enjoy access to conversations with the best authors and thinkers around the world. The literary festival is now streaming podcasts from the 2015 - 2020 sessions.

Yarra Valley Writers Festival
Australia's top writers will converge – online – on 9 May for a live-streamed YVWF. The program will be released in early April and ticket sales will go towards supporting the authors, conveners and technicians.

Sir Patrick Stewart
The Star Trek star has taken to reading a Shakespearean sonnet a day on Twitter. With 154 sonnets, that should keep him going for a few months.

Michael Chabon
Who better to read children's stories to your kids every night than Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Michael Chabon? Available on Instagram Live and YouTube.

This new podcast will showcase authors reading the works that matter to them. New episodes drop every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

(NEW) Donny Benét
The man whose 80s-inspired disco sound and B-grade-artist aesthetic have earned him a cult following will be streaming live each Saturday at 10am AEDT on Instagram.

Surry Hills Live
Jump on their Facebook page at 7:30pm AEDT on Thursdays to catch some emerging artists and DJs live.

Contemporary live music
(NEW) Kate Ceberano, Olympia & More To Play This Weekend's Delivered, Live Concert.  
The livestreamed Delivered, Live concert will return this weekend with yet another stacked line-up of Aussie talent including Kate Ceberano and Josh Earl

Green Day's No Fun Mondays
They'll be releasing a cover song on YouTube every week until lockdown's over.

'Housefyre' by Briggs and Tim Minchin
The money raised from sales and streams of 'Housefyre' goes towards the COVID-19 First Nations Appeal. Check out the official music video.

Robbie Williams
His coronaoke sessions on Instagram Live have included Rock DJ, Angels and Dancing Queen. If you miss out, you can watch the uploads on YouTube but for the best experience, follow his Instagram account and hope you're awake for his next one.

Sofa King Fest
You can donate to the musician or a charity of the musician's choice while watching this curated live stream of the best music around the world. Sets are scheduled at half-an-hour intervals and performers have included Melissa Etheridge and Cypress Hill.

Keith Urban
The country music star played a live set from his warehouse with wife Nicole providing the backup vocals. You can watch it on YouTube.

Rolling Stone's In My Room
This IGTV series kicked off with Brian Wilson singing from his California home and will release new episodes every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 3pm ET (6am the following day AEDT).

Metallica Mondays
The heavy metal band will be live streaming a previous live concert on their YouTube channel or Facebook page every Monday at 8pm ET (11am AEDT).

Dance

(NEW) New York City Ballet
Until 29 May, NYCB will be launching two digital streams a week from their repertory, available for 72 hours. Check back every Monday for the week's schedule; the works will launch at 8pm EST on Tuesdays and Fridays (10am AEST the following day for us).

The Australian Ballet
The digital season launched on 5 April with David McAllister's Sleeping Beauty. Each full-length production will be available for two weeks; next up is Cinderella, starting 17 April.

Comedy

LIVE: From Your Living Room
It's a variety show aimed at 'tickling your funny bones and lifting your spirits'. The stellar cast of local and international performers includes comedians, musicians and theatre stars.

The Tonight Show: At Home Edition
Jimmy Fallon chats to Trevor Noah, Jennifer Garner and Lin-Manuel Miranda in this new format of his famous talk show.

Jan van de Stool
Join the self-appointed self-help guru who's helped, literally, ten people, for her Coronavlog each Friday on Vimeo. Episodes cost less than a cup of coffee, if your coffee is more than $1.98.

Venues

Arts Centre Melbourne
The ACM's Together With You initiative sees interviews, performances, podcasts and playlists being shared on its website.

Sydney Opera House
The iconic venue will be streaming full-length performances, archival footage and live recordings each week from Wednesday to Sunday during its digital season.

Exhibitions and experiences

Head on Photo Festival
The festival has moved online, is scheduled to take place from 1 - 17 May and will feature art and activities to engage with. A scaled-back physical festival will take place later in the year.

Google Arts & Culture
You can get a lot closer to the artworks displayed here than in real life by using the zoom function ie. close enough to see the cracks and brush strokes. Search your favourite painter or museum.

Zoos Victoria
Bring the cuteness of the animals at Melbourne Zoo, Healesville Sanctuary and Werribee Open Range Zoo into your home with these live streams. There's Ed the Penguin, zebras, giraffes, snow leopards and lions.

The Nature Conservancy
It's a rocky-reef live feed with underwater and above-water reef cams and very soothing to observe.

San Diego Zoo
The famed zoo has everything from polar bears and penguins to owls and condors.

Virginia Zoo
Jump online daily at 2pm ET (that's 5am AEDT for the insomniacs in Australia) for a Virtual Voyage, presented by the keepers and education staff.

Detroit Zoo
Detroit Zoo's Virtual Vitamin Z series are educational and fun, covering a butterfly's life cycle, a visit to the red panda enclosure and more. There are also live cams of otters, wolves and snow monkeys.

Sealife  and Wildlife Sydney
Join the keepers or watch live streams of the underwater creatures. Or see Rocky the saltwater croc being fed.

Blarney Castle
Take a walk through the famed Irish castle on this virtual tour.

Ironfest Gothic Virtual Festival
Lovers of all things gothic can still attend the virtual festival, taking place from 17 - 19 April. Details TBC.
