Musical fans rejoice! Matilda the Musical is being turned into a Netflix movie, with what's sure to be an unbeatable cast. Academy Award nominee Ralph Fiennes will be playing the role of wicked headmistress Miss Trunchbull, while rumour has it that Killing Eve star, Jodie Comer, is in talks to play Miss Honey.
Laurence Olivier Award winner and the director of the original 2010 stage production, Matthew Warchus, will be directing the film. Matilda is based on Roald Dahl's classic novel, which tells the story of a young girl with magic powers who uses her skills to help others (and deal with Miss Trunchbull). Matilda the Musical has been playing to rave reviews at London's West End since 2011 and features original music and lyrics by the one and only Tim Minchin. Get ready for new material too, with the Aussie composer confirming that he's been working on a new song for the film version.
Shooting was originally set to begin in August, but with COVID-19 restrictions, the shooting schedule is currently unconfirmed. The film is expected to have a cinema release before appearing on Netflix.
