The 2020 gift guide for entertainment lovers

guides Nov 16, 2020

Can you believe that there are only five weekends until Christmas? Neither can we. Which means the clock is ticking to get gifts sorted for loved ones before last-minute panic sets in (for some of us it already has). So we've put together this handy guide for the entertainment lover in your life that's sure to tick all the boxes.

#1 Tickets to a show

Yes, we had to put this one out there. While we fully support the reasons for not being able to attend a show this year, we've been waiting on tenterhooks for news of venues re-opening. And our patience has been rewarded with a bumper 12 months coming up, with blockbuster musicals and epic tours scheduled to take place around the country. Pippin (Sydney), Frozen (Sydney) and Come From Away (Sydney, Melbourne) are the first major musicals returning to the stage, while national tours by the likes of Delta Goodrem, Guy Sebastian and Tim Minchin have been announced. Then there's Paw Patrol Live for the little ones and Magic Mike Live for the not-so-little ones. After a year starved of live entertainment, your loved ones are going to be overjoyed to find tickets to a show waiting for them underneath the tree. Check out all the upcoming shows here.

#2 Locally made goods for a night out

While Christmas markets may look a little different this year, they're still happening and full of goodies to please all tastes. Volunteer-run organisation Sydney Made has put together a handy Christmas gift guide with items to complement an indulgent night at the opera or post-theatre drinks with friends. The best part is that they're all locally made by artisans so they're one-of-a-kind and you're supporting creatives. We particularly love the clutches by KvOmakes, which are big enough to handle everything for a night out and come in a stunning range of colours.

Then there are these show-stopping pieces from Alana Douvros Jewelry. And these slimline wallets from garoo will have your friends and family wanting to pay for the next round of drinks, just so they can whip it out and show it off.

#3 Reusable masks

They are the definitive accessory of 2020 but they don't have to be boring. With COVID Safety Plans in place for venues and event spaces, a lot of theatres are requesting that patrons wear a mask when attending a show. You can play your part while standing out from the crowd with these hand-sewn masks from Todd+Creates. This initiative from veteran entertainer Todd McKenney has helped Aussie costume designers pivot and generate income when their work was decimated by the closure of live events.

Todd+Creates also has gift-giving for the whole family sorted, with everything from clothes to art to pet accessories for your four-legged friend and is offering free shipping storewide at the moment.

#4 Rolling Stone magazine subscription

Give them the gift of entertainment that lasts the whole year, with music, politics and culture delivered to their door every quarter. Added bonus: Use code TIX15 for 15% off – it works out to just over $50 including shipping.

Live entertainment is back for 2021! Visit TIX.co to see all the shows you can look forward to next year.
