She's been a part of pop culture for almost twenty years. First as the wide-eyed teeny bopper that graced our screens as Hannah Montana, then the teenager who partied in the USA, and the latex-donning twenty-year-old who twerked on Robin Thicke. Miley Cyrus is a woman of many personas, hairstyles and Bangerz (pun intended). Here we chart her transformation throughout the years.
Miley Cyrus secured this role at the age of eleven. Funnily enough, she auditioned for the role of Hannah Montana's best friend but was eventually selected for the lead role because of her musical chops and acting ability. Despite Hannah Montana being her most well-known role, Miley had previously starred in her father's television series Doc and in the Tim Burton film Big Fish. She's certainly come a long way from her Disney days.
In the midst of her Hannah Montana stardom, Miley began to tiptoe her way into a more mature image. 2009 was a huge year for her: she released one of her most successful singles 'Party in the USA', hit the road for her first world tour, and was ranked by Billboard as the fourth best-selling female artist of the year. At just sixteen years old, Miley reached outstanding levels of critical and commercial success.
Queen of Controversy
As her Disney years came to a close, Miley ramped up her attempts to change her image. She chopped off her signature brown hair in favour of a blonde pixie cut, had that infamous performance with Robin Thicke, and released 'Wrecking Ball'. Needless to say, her Disney ties were well and truly severed.
Miley is no stranger to charitable acts and has supported a variety of organisations including Make-a-Wish Foundation, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and many more. In 2014 Miley founded her own charity, the Happy Hippie Foundation, which works to support gender equality, youth homelessness and mental health awareness. Following the loss of her Malibu home in the California wildfires, Miley and Chris Hemsworth donated $500,000 toward relief efforts. Throughout the years Miley has continued to support causes close to her heart.
Whether you've been a Miley fan from day one or have come to love her throughout the years, the evolution of her personas has certainly entertained us all. But out of all of them, our favourite is definitely Miley the philanthropist.
